Okay, I am not really down with gossip magazines. I’ve always felt like they aren’t real journalists with their unnamed sources, the way they make money off of celebrity misery and the way they can really take some small semblance of truth and build a whole case against someone that is uncalled for and unnecessary.
Then, yesterday, THIS piece of trash came out from OK! Magazine:

Earlier this week, the Twilight hottie and some pals spent $350 on dinner in a fancy restaurant — but only dropped a $50 tip!
Okay, time out for a moment. Let’s do some math. Now, math is NOT my subject by any means, but what I got was 15% of $350 is $52.50. What this tells me is this whole story is born out of the fact that Rob missed the 15% rule by $2.50. Yes, calling the media was totally called for. Anyway, continue:

Rob, in the Big Apple to shoot his new film Remember Me, went to famed Greenwich Village Italian eatery Il Cantinori with three guy pals and a female friend just before 10pm on Tuesday.
Onlookers tell OK! that the group drank a $60 bottle of Chianti and Rob himself knocked back a couple of bottles of Moretti Italian beer (he had the Caprese salad as an appetizer and the veal Milanese for the entree, since you’re wondering…).
The casually dressed party laughed and joked at the table until nearly midnight. “They were the last diners to leave,” says one observer. The restaurant even comped a round of prosecco for the table.
But when it came time to pay, the group left a tip of only $50, just shy of the standard 15%, and way shy of what you’d expect the star of the most anticipated movie of the year to pay.
Even so, their waiter told OK! Rob was “very nice and friendly.”
But come on Rob, you’re not a starving artist anymore — you can do better than that!
Let me spell this out for everyone. Rob is being raked across the coals and being called cheap because he did not tip more than 15%. What?!? It’s not like he threw a $10 bill on the table and called it good. This waiter, who seemed very happy to speak to OK! Magazine and apparently never wants to see Rob back in their restaurant, not only had the opportunity to serve food to arguably the sexiest man on earth right now, but he/she got $50 to do it. I’m not seeing the problem here…
But this story shows a much bigger problem. While I can whole heartedly support gossip rags reporting news like “Rob Pattinson is AWESOME in Bed!”, and, of course, US Weekly‘s new goal of feeding us with hot, HAWT pictures of Rob, I get tired of the other 99.9% of crap they serve out. The crap that starts nasty rumors and I’m sure causes many a celebrity headaches, not just Rob. So, I just want to take a moment and ask them to just think for a moment. You know, I actually prefer stories like Rob impregnating Kristen over stories like this, because, while no one really believed Kristen was preggers, it is much easier to believe that Rob is cheap in the tipping department. And, the point of this 
little rant, once I got all the facts in front of me, I realized just a couple of things:
- Rob is not a bad tipper. He tips just like we tip. He’s a normal guy. He doesn’t over indulge on anything (as we can tell by he very limited wardrobe), so why would he overindulge on a tip for a dinner?
- This restaurant may have really been the tip off to the paps that Rob was even there. Sure seems like they had no problem calling OK! Magazine within a day of that dinner to give all the details of not only how much Rob spent, but what exactly he ate and how much he had to drink. At least they comped them one round of drinks to help make up for this mess of crap they caused.
- Rob was still a sweet, super nice guy. The waiter, even after apparently feeling shorted on the tip, still could only say nice things about him. Maybe that is a good lesson for the gossip mags to learn.
Sorry to use my blog as a soapbox today, but I needed a few minutes to get some of this out. I really feel like Rob is probably a nice guy (or else I wouldn’t do this EVERYDAY!) and when this kind of crap comes out, I just need a moment to defend him. And defend I did. cially rude and brutal to Rob and Kstew this summer! I thought tipping was on the before tax amount anyhow, so it’s prob more than 15% thanks for saying “aloud” what many of us are thinking!

I agree, these magazines are just grasping at straws now and its getting obnoxious! Rob tipped just perfectly fine. It amazes me how greedy people are getting and its really sad. You aren’t only defending Rob here but every celebrity that gets trashed for not just throwing their money out.

$2.50? They are complaining about not getting $2.50? Please. They should be happy they got a tip. Most people I know throw a quarter on the table. I hate LIfe & Style. I don’t read that garbage. I’m glad someone is defending Rob.

I felt the same way when I read the story… big freakin’ deal…
What, pray tell, is SO BAD about a $50 tip?? OK, if you wanna get technical, like you said, it’s a couple bucks short of the standard 15%, but I always estimate when I tip too…
And maybe HE wasn’t the one that paid the check, and therefore left the actual tip… maybe someone else in his party was the “culprit” as it were…
This stupid server should be happy they got anything at all… they could have gotten stiffed completely and not gotten a dime… now *that* would be something to talk about…
(heheh… I said “stiffed”…. stiffed by Rob… hehehe… ok my mind just went to the gutter so I lost my train of thought lol… but you get my meaning!!!)

You know how much I want to slap some of these people in the face? I mean, Rob is a normal person. He needs to just be left alone sometimes. I mean, seriously, $2.50?! That is just ridiculous. The only reason anyone would ever run this story is because it has Rob in it. Any other celebrity and it wouldn’t have been a big deal. If it has to do with Twilight, people are going to run it. I mean, I am one of the biggest Twilight fans out there, but I’d rather see a few magazines with the cast’s faces on it with good stories than having to see stupid stories like this. It’s horrible. And the worst part is that I feel like the cast and crew are going to start thinking that true fans are like this, when they aren’t. A true fan will keep their distance and not spread rumors and nonsense stuff around. UGH!

when the magazines kept saying rob and kristen were in love!, i think we all knew that the pictures that they were showing of them almost kissing were pictures from the mtv movie awards ect.
and stuff like “Rob flew to NY to see kristen”….he is doing a movie there!!!
i think everyone at the magazines are just desperate to do any article that even pertains to Rob, which i dont exactly mind. but instead of blowing up some stupid tip situation, just find more sexy pics for god sake!!!1

People are dumb, I think that if everyone else gets and hourly rate why do you expect a tip? Sorry my sister bartended in college and I know the tips were important to her, but Nurses and doctors save lives no one tips them…
If you get a tip grea, if you get nothing you still get paid by the hour…what a jerk to complain…they could have got five dollars in pennies in the bottom of a water glass!
No one is allowed to get on my Rob..unless they are invited..kick rocks crappy waiter!

No Rob is not cheap, either OK mag made this one up or the restaurant and the waiter does not even DESERVE 15% for their so called service, how DARE they disclose what patrons had for their meal and how much it paid, and tell about the tip. It is plain disrespectful and unclassy, this is suppose to be a 4 star restaurant? Doesn’t seem to act like one to me!
It could also be that whoever DID pay the bill didn’t think the service was worth more than $50 either…seems to me considering how they supposedly leaked this to the gossip mags, this tip was more than generous!

I think if anything these rumors just prove what a great guy Rob really is. I mean this is the best that they got. -2.50 .It would almost be funny if It just wasn’t so sad and relentless.

First of all I live in New York. And what he paid was completely appropriate. It’s like since Johnny Depp left that waiter a $5000.00 tip I guess all other movie stars are going to be called cheap. I wonder (if true) how much OK magazine paid him for his little comment. I hope is was more than 15%. I also think that it is sickening what these magazines and tabloids will do and say about Rob to make a dollar. Have people forgot that this person is human being that must go into stores on occasion and see this crap? I have heard that he actually goes on the internet at times just to see what is being written about him. And there are times when he thinks people are bloody insane. He cannot figure out where people get these things from. I love Rob to pieces. You will never see a more down to earth person period.
