If you’ve read Twilight, then the word fanfic is nothing new to you. Fan fiction fills that gaping hole we all fill once we finish the saga, then read Midnight Sun and then every outtake and extra on Stephenie Meyer’s site. I’ve found over the past few weeks that I have become quite obsessed with a couple of stories and I needed to find a better way to read versus on the computer (makes my eyes hurt!).
Today, I want to share with you my genius methods for not only hiding you fan fiction obsession, but also making your self look like a star employee while reading it!
1. Go to your work’s supply closet and grab a binder. I suggest anything over a 2″ cause, let’s face it, a 1/2″ binder is just not going to cut it.
2. Pull up your favorite fan fiction on your computer. (I’ll have some recommendations at the bottom!) Don’t be too concerned. If you use FanFiction.net, it’s hard to really tell what it is unless you get close.
3. Print one chapter at a time. About every 10 minutes, print a new one. Ideally, print as you read, that way you don’t raise suspicion by printing 300 pages at once!
4. Get yourself some tabs out of that supply closet and organize that thing! Don’t label. It will ruin the cover.
5. Put it all together, then set it out on your desk. Now you looked like you got some serious work on your hands.
6. When you leave work, be sure to take this binder home. Let at least 2 people see you carrying it (preferably one being your boss). Now, not only did you hide your obsession, but you look like you are taking work home. Boss approves!
You ready to get started, but need some recommendations! Here are the few I’ve been reading…
- Wide Awake – This is a great starter piece to the world of FF. Very angsty, but I like that. It’s all human and cannon (which means the characters are with the characters they are meant to be with!). Plus, it’s almost complete, which makes it even better. No waiting for new chapters!
- Carpe Noctum & Fiat Lux – This is my newest obsession. Still pretty angsty, but seriously, I am all about angst! It’s an alternate universe, which means the characters are the same, just the story line is varied from Twilight. This one is still in the works, but it’s an easy read that will leave you craving more!
- Dark Side of the Moon – Did you love Midnight Sun? Then you will love this one. It’s New Moon, but rewritten from Edward’s point of view. This author does a really amazing job with this, so much to the point that the lines are blurring for me on what really happened in New Moon and what is happening in DSOTM.
Want more recommendations? My home girl over at Random Acts of Rob has a stellar TwiPorn Library that will give you just about any kind of Fan Fiction you are looking for.

OME, have you been spying on me in my office, I did this a few months ago, and no one suspects a thing, except you and now the rest of the twilight obsessed world will know. but everyone at the office is still in the dark.

Great idea! However, since I am my own boss, it may prove difficult to trick myself. I may just have to fire me over this. Totes worth it.

LMAO fire yourself, hehe….

Hey, I copied and pasted all the texts from the outtakes and extras and just emailed them to my Kindle. Much easier on the eyes for the hardcore – red eye special. Love reading til 4am.

As a lowly government employee, I have to admit that the guilt wagon would trip me up on this particular method (not that it isn’t genius). However, I do take in my fair share of fanfic by reading on my iPhone. Head down, brows furrowed, I look terribly deep in thought as I take in the exploits of our fave Twi couple, many of which are not at all suitable for work!

I wish I could get away with that at my job, but I can’t cuz I’m a hairstylist lol… not really cuz we don’t have binders… we don’t even have a computer (well we DO but no internet access, just there for checking out customers)…
I may need a career change soon, heh heh
